What We Are Doing

September, 2009:  NRG Candidates Forum will be held on September 23 at Town Council chambers from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

June, 2009:  The Council approved the Carolina North Development Agreement.  NRG pressed successfully for a Council resolution to develop a plan to guarantee citizen participation in the key decisions not yet made.

June, 2009:   NRG issued final recommendations for the Development Agreement (the contract between the Town and UNC for Carolina North).  A majority of our recommendations were adopted by UNC and the Council.

May, 2009:  NRG sponsored a community forum and survey on Carolina North transit and traffic concerns for neighborhoods in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.  Those concerns were reported to the Town Council and UNC.

May, 2009: We successfully encouraged the Town Council to review the Town’s 10 year planning strategy.  The Town Council formed a Visioning Task Force to advise the Council on the type and character of density desired for the Town over the next 10 years.  Weekly meetings are now underway.  See www.townofchapelhill.org

December, 2008: The NRG recommendation to limit a high density zone to down town Chapel Hill was adopted by the Council.

December, 2008:  NRG presented a Density Forum which offered a balanced discussion on the pros and cons of density which began a community discussion on the topic.  Council Members attended the Forum and participated in the discussion which informed later Council discussions.
