NRG report on expanding public participation opportunities

As mandated by a resolution passed by the Town Council in June, 2009, the Town Manager is developing a plan for public notice and participation for the first phase of the Carolina North development. It will be presented to the Council on January 11, 2010.

NRG recently surveyed interested citizens and has submitted a summary of results and recommendations to the Manager. Thanks to all who participated!

Citizens Report on Carolina North Development Agreement

On June 22, 2009, after years of planning and negotiation with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Chapel Hill Town Council approved a Development Agreement that will guide the first 3 million square feet of development of Carolina North. The new research campus will be located on the 900-acre Horace Williams tract in Chapel Hill.

During the months leading up to the vote, hundreds of citizens and Neighbors for Responsible Growth (NRG) worked to ensure that the Agreement reflected the values and interests of area residents.  We have put together a brief report that summarizes how issues important to our community are addressed in the Development Agreement:
