One element of “responsible growth” is a Town with safe bike lanes and walking trails. Recently the Town of Chapel Hill received an award from the League of American Bicyclists who designated the town as a bronze-level “Bicycle Friendly Community.” We would love to see the Town of Chapel Hill live up to that award.
There are several advocacy groups working for improved biking routes. The Campus to Campus Bike Connector Advocacy group is proposing to the Chapel Hill and Carrboro governments to build the campus to campus connector in advance of construction of Carolina North. This group is a committee of Neighbors for Responsible Growth. CCBC is collaborating with Bike Carrboro, a Carrboro-based advocacy group. Go Chapel Hill is a website encouraging walking and biking in Chapel Hill.
The Town of Chapel Hill maintains a system of natural surface and paved walking trails. Carrboro has just begun a program of greenways, so far all of them paved: one continues the Chapel Hill section of the Morgan Creek into Carrboro.
